When we’re not out doing car stuff, there’s nothing we like more than taking in some cool live music somewhere, and we much prefer small gigs to stadiums or festivals where you are far removed from the stage and the actual performance.
Now many people will knock Facebook for this, that, and the other, but it can throw up some good opportunities that you might otherwise miss. Last week FB came up trumps with a simple draw for those that follow Seasick Steve’s fan page, you just had to register your email address to maybe win the chance to go to an exclusive gig in London with an audience of just 100. We duly registered, and later that day, we were one of the lucky entrants and bagged a pair of tickets.
The gig was at the Venue, a cellar bar opposite Old Compton Street Tube, and the evening was for Steve to perform material from his forthcoming new album in public for the first time. We had been lucky to see one of his first UK live performances, just a couple of months after appearing on Jools Holland’s show, Steve himself said on the night that he much prefers being up close and personal with his audience, and we have to say, we prefer it that way too.
Steve’s new CD is called ‘Sonic Soul Surfer’ and is released on 23rd March 2015. Tickets for his UK tour in April are on sale now.
