Just mention ‘North American’ or ‘Billy’s’, to anyone into Hot Rods, Customs or American cars in the Southern half of the country, and maybe beyond, and they’ll know exactly where you mean. Situated in Park Rd, Farnborough, Billy Roe has been looking after American cars in the area for over 12 years at his cool old art deco garage with its curved glass facade. We always enjoy popping in and there’s always something interesting to see, plus the kettle is always on!
A tradition of recent years has been his informal get-together on Good Friday, with many people attending the nearby Wheels Day show in the morning and then drifting along to North American for the Cadbury’s creme eggs, beer and BBQ. You can tell which pics were taken on the open day by the crowd outside, though we’d taken a few a couple of weeks before as well.
In recent months, this real deal ’32 Roadster has been gradually evolving from a stocker to the out and out archetypal Deuce Hot Rod you see here. Powered by a blown Flathead and bound for Pendine Sands this year, it’s going to be on the one to watch on the beach this year.
Meanwhile, out back in the workshop, Billy and his team had been updating this ’35 Ford Sedan with a small block Chevy and uprated brakes , the only clue to its new hot rod identity being the ’40 steel wheels, a real wolf in sheep’s clothing you might say.
North American remains one of the few shops in the area that will handle anything from a service on a modern yank car or truck, or a full hot rod build up. American spares are also kept in stock with the shop reception area about to get a new makeover. Billy has also been known to import a few cars and trucks in his time, and will usually know what’s around if you’re in the market for something new, and customers will often leave cars on display on the garage forecourt for sale on a sale or return basis.
We’ll finish up this visit with another shot from Good Friday’s open house and the variety of cars that showed up on the day, despite the damp gloomy weather.
Thanks to Billy once again for the hospitality, and don’t forget to check out North American’s brand new website at http://namcoamerican.com/
